Colossians 1:15 is one of the most profound truths of the Bible:  Jesus is not only equal to God (as the visible image of the invisible God) but He is the exact representation of God.  Jesus reveals that God is supreme over all creation and is the authority over all!  Christ’s Preeminence is clearly taught in the Scriptures.  Christ is the foundation.  He is the cornerstone causing many to stumble as they cannot accept that Jesus is fully God.  Many people cannot accept the fact that God would actually come to earth because they see the earth as being "evil".  To them, Jesus is not preeminent - He is not the supreme and outstanding Lord of all.  He is simply a man and just another prophet.

The Bible clearly teaches that Jesus was fully God and fully man.  As man, He was born into the family of King David to walk this earth - to feel what we feel - to experience what we experience - to pay the ultimate price for our transgressions.  And being fully man, His pain was real when He was scourged and crucified.  As a man, he was buried.  But, as only God could do, He arose from the dead on the third day!  Fully God and fully man!

I go fishing at a lake not far from my home.  Several years ago, someone took a spray can of paint and painted on a fence "What if God was one of us?"  Every time I go to the lake, I read that graffiti and each time I think, "I wonder if the person who wrote that actually understood that the answer to his question is "YES"?"  Jesus is one of us!  He was born of man, but fully God as the foundation of all.  His presence sub-exists as the Holy Spirit that He sends to dwell within us to teach us, empower us and to comfort us.  These individual traits - although distinct - are the same.  This relationship between God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit is referred to as the Trinity.  The term comes from the Greek word trias and from the Latin word trinitas.  The Trinity is often described as Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.  Although referred to generally in many places in Scripture, the word "Trinity" is not contained in Scripture.  This is an extremely important concept because it reveals that God is the creator of all, Jesus is our Redeemer, and the Holy Ghost comes from Heaven to fill us with the power from Heaven!

It is easy to push Christ out of His rightful place and substitute something else!  Some people are legalistic and believe that rituals and works are the keys to salvation - not the preeminent Christ!  Many cannot accept that Christ alone is sufficient for salvation.  Some believe you must speak in tongues to be saved or be baptized to be saved or that only their ’religion’ with its covenants and mission statements allow for salvation.  Some believe that only 144,000 will be saved.  Are you putting stipulations on your salvation other than Christ’s Preeminence as Lord?  I believe in sola scriptura.  Simply put, God has given us all the knowledge and information in His Word, the Bible that we need to be saved!  This does not mean that some of the traditional Christian practices are unimportant.  It means that Christ’s preeminence is sufficient for salvation.  He existed in the beginning.  He was the first born of the dead.  He is the center.

Imagine you are stranded on an island and find a Bible.  As you read, you come to understand Jesus existed before anything was made!  You read where God gave His only Son that whosoever would believe in Him would be saved!  You read of Jesus’ teachings, His death, and His resurrection.  As you sit on the beach - alone - you confess your belief in Jesus and trust Him to care for you.  The Bible says that God is faithful to save you as Jesus is the way, the truth and the life.  The Preeminent One, When you accept Jesus as Lord, He will send the Holy Ghost to dwell in you!  Christ’s Preeminence:  He died.  He was raised from the dead.  He is the Way.

You may have presuppositions that there is no God.  You may believe that life on this earth is it and when you die, it’s done.  This explains why some people place money, material wealth, popularity, power, and numerous other things the world has to offer above the Preeminent One.  But when you invite Christ into your life, He becomes preeminent in your life, He becomes the focus.  As Christ’s Preeminence takes priority in your life, many things will take on a new perspective!  Trust in Christ.  Believe that He, being the first to be raised from the dead, is Preeminent over all that was created!
